Are you concerned about pet overpopulation? Are you saddened by the number of animals that must be euthanized every month? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you probably know that the answer to these problems is simple -- in theory. SPAY and NEUTER! Unfortunately, we the people are the ones that are responsible for seeing that this simple medical procedure is done. No matter how tired old Snowball is of having kittens, Snowball will keep having them until she gets spayed. Though many people have good intentions about spaying and/or neutering their animals, they don't. Reasons abound: they meant to but the dog went into heat before they got around to it, they can't afford it, they want their children to see the miracle of birth one time, they don't want their cat to be put through the surgery, and so on. Only education can change some of these ideas, but, more often than not, the root of the problem is money, and this is an area where APS and the community can help. Imagine the decline in the number of puppies and kittens at the shelter if every animal that left the shelter were spayed or neutered.

To help this problem, we have started the SOS Program: Sponsor Our Spay (or Neuter). Here's how it works. We are asking individuals or groups in the community to make a donation to help defray the cost of sterilization for cats and dogs adopted from the Person County Animal Shelter. The donation can be in any size -- $10, $20, $30, $40, $50, $60, $70, $80, or more. If you or your group gives $50 or more, we will send you a notice telling you that a dog or cat has been spayed with your donation. If we can, we will also include a picture of the animal. Also, pictures of the spayed/neutered animals will be displayed on the website. We believe this program has the potential to help the endless proliferation of unwanted animals in our county. If you are a person who wants to help make this happen, send a donation today or organize a group at your work, school, church, club, etc. to sponsor a spay/neuter. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Think, every $50 we collect could help save the life of another deserving cat or dog at the Shelter and prevent the lives of 8 more unwanted animals, which prevents the lives of 64 more unwanted animals, which prevents the lives of 512 more unwanted animals, which prevents the lives of 4096... Just imagine it!
