While I was volunteering at the Person County Animal Shelter during the month of January, I walked past the kennels of all the dogs still waiting their destiny. Would they make it to the other side to adoption, or would they encounter an untimely death? As I passed each kennel, there was a story in the scared faces of each of these dogs. My heart ached for the unlucky ones. If only I could save them all. As I approached the next kennel I was met with this big brown eyed/long eared Beagle. As if she was afraid to look my way, I knelt down and she nudged towards me with the gentlest motion. I knew she would not make it to the other side&You see, they do not put Beagles up for adoption at this shelter because they say there are too many in the county already. She was about to meet her untimely death that very day. I knelt down and told her I would be back. I told the staff that I was going to rescue the Beagle in number 7 and to hold her until I returned. After making the appointment with the vet for her vaccinations and wellness check, I loaded the car with the Pet Taxi and off I went to get my scared little companion. She was delighted to see me and we left together. The vet gave her a great wellness check and we scheduled the spay appointment for several weeks later. We then went home where she was welcomed by other fosters dogs I was taking care of at the time. We named her Miss Bea and she was so grateful for her new surroundings. Miss Bea began to put on weight rapidly. My first thought was could she be pregnant? I called the vet a few days before her spay appointment was scheduled and he recommended X-Rays if we wanted to know for sure. So Miss Bea, my husband, and I went to get X-rays of her belly just to see what was going on. Sure enough, the vet came back and said she was carrying 6 puppies and was due within 5-10 days. WOW!! So I thought well God has placed me here for a reason, and with HIS help, and my husband's help, we will foster Miss Bea and her 6 puppies too!! We now have 6 healthy puppies and Miss Bea has been the BEST mama to each of them. For the first four weeks, she would only leave them to go potty. Miss Bea is now spayed and needless to say, we are very attached. Her puppies, Layla, Bella, Stella, Roscoe, Rocky, & Sammy are now awaiting their forever homes. Miss Bea still looks at me with those Big Brown eyes full of LOVE and GRATEFULNESS for giving her and her babies a second chance. That's my rally to the rescue story, and dogs like Miss Bea are the reasons I do what I do!
