Animal Protection Society of Person County is a non-profit 501c3 organization. We are a group of volunteerst that open our hearts and homes to the homeless, neglected, abused animals. We rescue animals from the shelter that are in danger of being euthanized.
- Did you know Person County allows GAS CHAMBER EUTHANASIA for our shelter pets? We are promoting euthanasia by injection of sodium pentobarbital only when necessary.
- Due to the influx of animals and no spay/neuter laws, the euthanasia rate is high at the our local County shelter. Most of the animals that are euthanized at Person County shelter are gassed in the gas chambers. We are actively involved with legislation to ban this method of euthanasia and allowing euthanasis by lethal injection ONLY when necessary. Euthanasia by injection of sodium pentobarbital is the method used in veterinarians' offices, and is recommended by EVERY national humane organization in the United States as the most humane, safest, least stressful, and cost effective. It takes only seconds and the animal falls peacefully asleep, with an overdose of an anesthetic. Injection is typically done in the leg for adult animals, or in the tummy for smaller animal This should not be confused with intracardiac injections, which is not humane if done without anesthesias. Twenty seven counties out of the one hundred counties in North Carolina are still using the gas chamber , Person County being one of them, and we have hopes of eliminating this practice across the state of NC. We need your voice to help us in this effort to remove the gas chamber from Person County Animal Shelter. Please consider writing or calling our representatives for Person County to ask them to ban the use of gas chamber at Person County Animal Shelter. You may contact Representative Winkie Wilkins at Winkie.Wilkins@ncleg.net , 336-599-7336, and Senator Ellie Kinaird at Elliek@ncleg.net ,919-733-5804. For more information on the gas chambers, please log on to http://ncche.com/ Remember, when you adopt a animal from us, your are saving them from this horrendous method of euthanasia. Please spay/neuter your pets to help reduce the overpopulation which results in euthanasia of our beloved pets. You may contact us for low/cost spay/neuter clinics at 336 597 5013.
- We take great pride in our adoption program. All of our animals rescued are placed in to foster care where they receive love, nourishment, and medical care. .Due to the rising cost of veterinary care, and to ensure we can continue to save animals in danger, along with providing excellent vetting care, our adoption fee is $200 to include spay/neuter, vaccinations, heart worm tested, microchip implantation, and any medical needs the animal incurred while in our care. We operate soley on contributions from our supporters and are very grateful for their support.
